High Pollen Counts Trigger Inflammation in Sensitive Individuals

Island Healthworks Discusses pollen Allergies, Causes & Mitigation - Grasses are a common trigger

Grasses and other Elements of Nature Are Common Allergens due to Pollen Release

Nature is essential for human health, yet pollen allergies present a growing challenge. In this spring feature article, Island Healthworks profiles the science behind pollen reactions in this feature article, implications of pollen reactions for general health. You can then discover our tips for addressing these factors in your life!

While your body is fortunately programmed to defend itself against foreign invaders, oversensitization of the immune system leads to a wide range of harmful impacts when ordinary matter is targeted. The results include significant levels of inflammation throughout the body tissues and organ systems.

The causes of allergies remain the subject of important further research, there is evidence that toxicity and excessive immune system reactivity through antibody formation play a key role in allergic processes. Addressing allergies can take three different paths. First of all, addressing potential allergic root causes is important, whether the root of an allergic response is linked to an overly sensitive immune system due to antibody interactions, or due to sensitization and increased body toxicity levels that impair immunity.

Natural environmental elements, toxicity and deficiencies in nutrients are believed to be potential contributors to certain allergic conditions according to the writings of Carolee Bateson-Kotch, Author of Allergies: Disease in Disguise, while high levels of sanitation have been tagged by some researchers as a potential cause of higher allergy rates in industrialized societies. Hay fever symptoms including Allergic Rhinitis are especially serious in the spring. Detoxification and alkaline, detoxification compatible dietary practices throughout the year may be helpful prior to the use of herbs in hay fever season.

Increased water intake, healthy eating and reductions in total exposure to pollen may be helpful in reducing the symptoms of allergic conditions and the frequency, duration and intensity of reactions.

Adequate fiber allows digestion to occur more efficiently with a reduced load of toxins and increased nutrient absorption. At the same time, sufficient vegetable intake and avoidance of excessive acidity, as discussed in our previous feature article on balancing body acidity and alkalinity may limit the rise of allergic, inflammation related conditions. Allergies are “nothing to sneeze at”, and may cause significant disability, chronic impairment and even death, in cases of anaphylaxis. Histamine, a powerful hormone is released during allergic reactions by mast cells, causing significant irritation and even swelling.

In the spring, airborne allergens including pollens are hard to avoid, and the allergic load from these natural allergens may be worsened by unnatural levels of toxins in our environment. Varnishes, paints and even packaging materials may contribute to toxicity and allergic burdens in our home and office environment. There are many other factors to consider. In response to less avoidable sources of allergens in our environment such as pollen, we can take steps to compensate for your immune system overreaction. Proper mineral intake with tonics may have benefits to cellular health, while increased sea salt intake and water may be recommended to support the cellular biochemical balance.

Island Healthworks discusses pollen allergy considerations from an integrative health

Outdoor recreation is good for your health but pollen may present challenges. These trees, grasses and shrubs are all unique pollen sources.

Natural anti-inflammatories may reduce irritation of mucous membranes associated with allergic conditions. The right herbs may support kidney function and reduce fluid retention and edema related symptoms, while antioxidants may stabilize mast cell health. Anti-bacterial and viral properties may be offered by flavonoids in citrus components. Certain herbs may help to clear sinus congestion and lung irritation associated with pollen allergies. Marine Phytoplankton has attracted increasing interest for its potential to provide essential nutritional support in a highly bioavailable form.

For more serious cases of allergic symptoms involving pollens, certain traditional herbal formulations originally used by Native American tribes may serve to reduce coughs and respiratory symptoms. Decongestion and relief of inflammation, fluid retention and respiratory conditions are primary factors.

When addressing inflammation and pollen allergy related considerations, Yvonne highlights the importance of an individualized approach to integrative health care. Each body is unique and different root causes may underlie given health challenges. Consulting an integrative health care professional allows the best approach to be found efficiently without loss of opportunities for improvement or a waste of resources.

Carefully selected under sound guidance, the right quality controlled herbal formulations, supplements and dietary approaches can play distinct roles in supporting vibrant health.
